IS BLACK SANDSTONE HIGH MAINTENANCE?

Black sandstone can be a bit trickier to maintain in comparison to other natural stones. When exposed to direct sunlight sandstone will eventually fade slightly, however, because of their darker colouring black sandstone slabs can fade considerably faster.

This shouldn’t put you off dark sandstone though! With proper maintenance and the use of suitable cleaning products, there are ways to get around this issue.

HOW TO PROTECT BLACK SANDSTONE PAVING FROM FADING?

The trick to ensuring your sandstone doesn’t fade over time is to protect it from the elements from the get-go. This can be done by using an outdoor paving sealant as soon as your sandstone slabs are laid.

Even if you can’t seal your paving right after laying it, the sooner you do, the better. Sealing your natural stone tiles creates a coating that protects them from UV rays, intense frost in winter, and rain.

You will need to reapply a solvent-based sealant every 12 to 18 months to ensure your paving remains protected. Sealant can also help bring back some of the shine of already faded tiles.
